ATLANTA (July 1) -- Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Partner Sidney Welch was a featured panelist at American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) Annual Meeting. The meeting was held June 29 – July 1, at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Welch joined other industry leaders at a session titled, “Telemedicine, Telehealth, and Mobile Health: The Future is Today.” The session focused on the increasing relevance of telemedicine in today’s health care environment and some of the unique ways in which telemedicine is being used. Panelists addressed state-by-state variations and regulator concerns and explore the Federation of State Medical Board Model Policy. Topics included AMA’s adopted recommendations for telemedicine, medical staff implications and The Joint Commission, public and private payor reimbursement, privacy concerns, tax issues for tax-exempt hospitals when they provide telemedicine to other providers and mobile apps and FDA Regulations.
Ms. Welch counsels healthcare, life sciences, and healthcare technology clients in transactional, regulatory, administrative law, and litigation matters on a national basis. She assists clients in structuring transactions and responding to compliance issues associated with federal and state healthcare laws and regulations; the federal Anti-Kickback Statute; Stark I, II & III; the False Claims Act; HIPAA; Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, voluntary disclosures, and repayments; antitrust laws; and state self-referral, fee splitting, certificate of need, and the corporate practice of medicine laws.
In administrative matters, Ms. Welch works with clients on medical staff bylaws; medical staff hearing and disciplinary matters; credentialing; Medicare and Medicaid investigations, audits and appeals; medical licensure issues; and disputes with and among insurance companies, physicians, and hospitals.
