    IP Issues in Corporate Transactions – A Yahoo Case Study (A. James Isbester) The valuation of IP assets and risks are challenging aspects of many corporate acquisitions. James Isbester, a partner in the firm’s San Francisco office will share some strategies and approaches, using examples from the firm’s role in deals such as the sale of Yahoo and others.

    Panel Discussion: Patent Prosecution in the U.S.: Getting the Best Patent for Your Money (Charles W. Gray, Lu Yin, and Fei Shen) Effectively navigating the U.S. patent system has become increasingly more difficult in recent years. As a result, obtaining high quality patents at an affordable price has also become more difficult. A panel consisting of Charles Gray, a partner in our Shanghai Office, Lu Yin, Counsel also in our Shanghai office, and Fei Shen, a Senior associate in our San Diego office (combined they have nearly 30 years of U.S. patent prosecution experience) will be discussing practical strategies and solutions for obtaining the highest quality patents without breaking your IP budget.

    Panel Discussion: Litigating Intellectual Property in the U.S.
    • Protecting Your Company and Salespeople at U.S. Trade Shows (Kristopher Reed) Mr. Reed, a Partner in the Patent Litigation Team at Kilpatrick Townsend, will cover strategies to help protect your company and salespeople while presenting at U.S. trade shows. Mr. Reed will discuss U.S. law regarding enforcing intellectual property rights at trade shows, and will present best practices for avoiding and handling enforcement actions by others during a show.
    • ITC Investigations: A Practical Overview (David E. Sipiora) Over the past decade, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has become a potent source of relief for companies seeking to prevent the importation of infringing products into the U.S. Increasingly, Chinese companies have been named as targets of ITC investigations. Mr. Sipiora is a Partner in the Patent Litigation Team at Kilpatrick Townsend and has served as lead trial counsel in numerous ITC investigations. Mr. Sipiora will discuss the framework of the ITC, the timeline of an ITC investigation, and practical considerations for those contemplating filing an ITC complaint or faced with defending against a newly-filed complaint.
    • Pre-litigation Patent Licensing and Other Means of Extracting Value from Your Portfolio (Babak Sani) Mr. Sani, a partner in the San Francisco office of Kilpatrick Townsend, whose practice focuses on licensing and other transactions involving patents, will address the current state of the patent market in general, and evaluation of patents in the contexts of licensing and sales/acquisitions in particular.
