Daniel Young focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and counseling. He has first- and second-chaired trials before federal courts throughout the United States, before the United States International Trade Commission and in private arbitration. Mr. Young has litigated patents covering a wide range of technologies, including semiconductor processing, telecommunications, memory systems, software and financial transactions. He has also litigated a number of trademark and copyright cases. In addition to litigation, Mr. Young counsels clients on a wide range of intellectual property licensing issues, including drafting and negotiating software and patent licenses. Mr. Young was recognized in 2010 and 2011 as a Colorado "Rising Star" in the area of Intellectual Property by SuperLawyers magazine. He was named a 2013 "IP Star" by Managing Intellectual Property magazine. Mr. Young was recognized as a top patent practitioner in 2013 by IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners.

Before joining the legal profession, Mr. Young served as an engineer officer in the United States Army and United States Army Reserve. He also worked for several years as a consulting engineer.

Representative Trial Experience

Trial counsel for a substantial portion of an investigation and hearing involving DDR SDRAM and digital transmission technology before the International Trade Commission. The case is currently pending before the International Trade Commission.

Trial counsel for four semiconductor processing patents litigated as part of a month-long arbitration for patent infringement that resulted in a favorable damages award. Patents involved various metallization, etching, and dielectric deposition techniques.

Trial counsel for the damages portion of a patent infringement case involving modem technology litigated in a two-week jury trial before the United States District Court for the District of Delaware that resulted in a favorable jury verdict.

Trial counsel for a substantial portion of an investigation and hearing involving infringement of a semiconductor processing patent before the United States International Trade Commission.

Trial counsel for all expert testimony in a seven-day bench trial involving a financial transaction patent before the United States District Court for the District of Colorado that resulted in a favorable decision.

Represented a client in a trademark infringement action concerning oil and gas well logs before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas that resulted in a favorable settlement.

Represented a client in a patent dispute involving financial transaction patents before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas that resulted in a favorable settlement.

Represented a client seeking to enjoin the unauthorized public performance of musical works before the United States District Court for the District of Colorado that resulted in a favorable settlement.

Represented a client in a patent assertion involving numerous semiconductor processing and electronic circuit technology patents against a rival semiconductor technology company.
