Melissa Patterson focuses her practice on intellectual property law, with a primary focus on preparation and prosecution of patent applications, particularly in the areas of software and financial networks. Ms. Patterson has experience prosecuting patent applications particularly involving software, mechanical devices, physics, and business methods.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Patterson worked as a litigation legal assistant at a Los Angeles law firm where she conducted non-infringement and invalidity analyses for multiple intellectual property litigation matters involving wireless communication standards, electrical engineering specifications and computer software patents. She also worked as a patent agent and law clerk for a boutique patent firm in Los Angeles for several years.

While in law school, Ms. Patterson served as an extern for the Honorable Valerie Baker Fairbank at the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in 2009. She also worked as a legal intern at Fox Cable Network in Los Angeles. Prior to attending law school, she gained six years of experience as a computer programmer and software project manager.
