Matt Kitces is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on drafting and prosecuting many classes of patent applications, as well as counseling clients on building strong, value-rich patent portfolios. Mr. Kitces has represented clients in a variety of technology areas, including mechanical, electrical, medical devices, software applications, and complex systems, among others.

Mr. Kitces grew up always interested in understanding how the world around him worked. This trait led him to patent law, where he takes personal interest in maximizing the benefit and reach of his clients' innovations. He is known for his ability to rapidly understand complex technology and to convey sophisticated concepts to others in unique and effective ways. In his free time, Mr. Kitces enjoys singing, photography, spending time with family, and building electronic devices. 

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Kitces worked as a patent attorney in the Richmond office of a Virginia-based law firm and helped found the Thomas Jefferson Intellectual Property Inn of Court. While attending law school, he served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society.

Mr. Kitces was recognized as a Washington, D.C. "Rising Star" in 2017 for Intellectual Property by Super Lawyers magazine.
