Ken Jenkins is the Managing Partner of the firm's San Diego office. His practice focuses on patent counseling and patent litigation, primarily in the health and life sciences and the oil and gas-petrochemicals industries.
Dr. Jenkins counsels life sciences companies and research institutions in developing patent claiming and filing strategies, procuring patents on cornerstone technologies, and strategically managing patent portfolios to maximize investments. He also counsels lenders and investors in assessing the value of patent assets through due diligence reviews, including validity analyses, freedom to operate analyses, and in-licensed technology investigations. Dr. Jenkins additionally provides strategic advice in high-stakes patent litigations involving challenges under the Hatch-Waxman Act.
Dr. Jenkins has extensive patent procurement experience in a wide array of disruptive bioscience and chemical technologies, including diagnostics, small molecule therapeutics, stem cell therapies, antibody therapeutics, green industrial chemical production, enhanced oil recovery, fracking, interfering RNA technologies, nutraceuticals, proteomics, pharmaceutical formulations and nanotechnologies.
Dr. Jenkins received the Royal Society of Chemistry's Young Investigator Award for his Ph.D. thesis work and was elected by his peers as one of San Diego's Best Young Attorneys in 2008. Dr. Jenkins was recognized as a member of "The Transcript 10" by the San Diego Daily Transcript in its annual 2012 Top Attorneys special report. The Daily Transcript selected only ten noteworthy San Diego County attorneys to be recognized under “The Transcript 10,” which showcases an eclectic mix of practices. Dr. Jenkins has been recognized as a top patent practitioner having “superlative technical expertise” by IAM Patent 1000. Dr. Jenkins was named a 2013 San Diego “Super Lawyer” in the area of Intellectual Property Law by Super Lawyers magazine.
