Michael Fortes counsels businesses in all aspects of intellectual property rights enforcement and brand protection. He provides proactive and highly effective representation in rights disputes related to trademarks, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, rights of publicity and confidentiality agreements. Mr. Fortes specializes in advising clients on unsettled or developing legal issues related to infringement on the Internet, including policing avenues of e-commerce and web-based marketplaces, detecting and combating online piracy and protecting trademark rights in domain names, among others. Apart from intellectual property rights enforcement, Mr. Fortes provides counsel in international and domestic brand strategy and portfolio management.

Mr. Fortes earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of San Francisco while attending law school there. As a graduate student, he completed professional internships in Europe and South America, and directed summer diversity programs for incoming law students who are underrepresented in the legal community. Mr. Fortes also has experience in business management and regulatory compliance. Prior to joining Kilpatrick Townsend, he managed contracts and transactions at a renowned jazz recording label in New York City.
