James Barker focuses his practice on patent prosecution in the mechanical and medical device fields.

Mr. Barker worked as a summer associate for the firm in 2013. He also served as a legal intern for the patent group at the University of Washington Center for Commercialization. While attending the University of Washington School of Law, Mr. Barker continued to develop screening methods for algal biotechnology in the Cattolico Laboratory at UW.

Prior to law school, Mr. Barker worked as an engineer in the Cattolico Laboratory on algae-derived renewable energy. Pursuant to his thesis in the same field, he worked as a mechanical engineering research assistant to Dr. Ann Mescher, Dr. John Kramlich, and Dr. Rose Ann Cattolico; and he worked in the Design for Environment Laboratory as a research assistant to Dr. Joyce Cooper. He was also a mechanical engineering undergraduate research assistant to Dr. Lester Su at John Hopkins University.
