RALEIGH (May 26) – Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton announced today that Partner Steve Levitas was a recipient of the Charlotte Business Journal’s prestigious 2015 Energy Leadership Award. The eight honorees were celebrated at the Energy Inc. Summit and Energy Leadership Awards on Thursday, May 21 at the Westin Charlotte.

Mr. Levitas serves as co-leader of the firm’s Energy Team and represents numerous developers of renewable energy projects, as well as investors and commercial and industrial users focused on renewables. While he assists clients with all aspects of renewable energy project development and finance, the Charlotte Business Journal gave particular emphasis to Mr. Levitas’ expertise and track-record in negotiating power purchase agreements (PPAs) by which solar and other renewable projects sell their output to utilities. He has negotiated many of the largest PPAs in the Southeast on behalf of firm clients. He was also recognized for his substantial pro bono efforts and board service to several clean-energy nonprofits, including the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association, the Southeast Energy Efficiency Alliance, the Center for Energy Education, and the Southeast Wind Coalition.

From 1993 through 1996, Mr. Levitas served as Deputy Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources. Prior to his tenure as Deputy Secretary, he served as Director and Senior Attorney of the North Carolina Environmental Defense Fund. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Harvard Law School.
