"What You Need to Know About the New Defend Trade Secrets Act," Speaker, The Future of Intellectual Property, New York State Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section, November 2016.

The world is a rapidly changing place, with ideas and businesses speeding across timelines and media platforms. Our highly experienced panelists will explore how factors such as emerging technologies, new federal laws, geopolitical shifts and the rapid globalization of commerce will impact IP rights for years to come.

Appropriate for both new associates and seasoned practitioners, this Program will look at the particular challenges faced by start-up ventures and the use of new media platforms, the state of European IP rights in a post-BREXIT world, some of the current initiatives and future plans of the USPTO, how to use the new Defending Trade Secrets Act to best protect IP, and the ethical issues surrounding the quickly changing IP landscape.

This panel will provide guidance to counsel on how to leverage the DTSA to protect intellectual property rights and employers’ interests. Our speakers will examine key sections of the DTSA such as the ex parte seizure provision, and discuss tactical considerations of actions under the DTSA. They will also explore the differences between the Uniform Trade Secrets Act and the DTSA, and the DTSA’s effect on state laws and causes of action.
