The United States health care system is poised to undergo a complete transformation as a result of the Affordable Care Act. As we move closer to the January 1, 2014 effective date of the law’s most critical provisions, employers must be prepared to comply or face penalties. Yet, with all of the regulations and related guidance that has been issued by the government in the last 12 months, compliance is no easy task.

Earlier this year, we held a teleconference on the employer penalty provisions that begin to apply next year. Although this topic has been the primary focus for many employers, there are many other important requirements and items for 2014 that need to be considered.

This teleconference will follow our typical summer conference format updating employers and plan sponsors on the key issues for 2014. Topics the Kilpatrick Townsend Health and Welfare Team will address include:

  • An update on the employer penalty guidance and key issues employers face
  • The final employer wellness program regulations issued on May 29
  • Status of the public exchanges and the exchange rules impacting employers
  • How to draft and distribute the employer exchange notice
  • ACA requirements impacting benefit design for 2014
  • It’s HIPAA Time! New rules begin to apply September 23, 2013
