DASH's Allies in Change Awards recognize community partners who have made a difference in the lives of women and children facing homelessness due to domestic violence. As the District Alliance for Safe Housing, DASH relies on our allies in the community to amplify the DASH mission and work to ensure that every home is a safe home for survivors of abuse.
This year’s honorees include: Gustavo Velasquez and Alexis Taylor of the DC Office of Human Rights; Jamila Larson of the Homeless Children’s Playtime Project; Paul Aguggia of Kilpatrick, Townsend, LLP; Heather Burns and Dr. Kathleen Maloy of the Live to Give Charitable Trust; Julie Hamre, DASH’s pro-bono bookkeeper; Andrew Lazerow of Covington and Burling, LLP; and DC Councilmember Jim Graham.
Pat Lawson Muse of NBC News Channel 4 will be the Mistress of Ceremonies, and our special guest speaker will be Olga Trujillo, author of the critically-acclaimed book, “The Sum of My Parts,” who will discuss her story of survival from the abuse she experienced as a child.
We will also mark DASH’s fifth anniversary with the release of a report documenting the impact of DASH’s programs in the last five years on the lives of survivors of domestic violence facing homelessness in the District of Columbia.
