Annie Albertson focuses her practice on trademark, copyright, licensing and new media issues. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Albertson was Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs for Brand Sense Partners. As BSP’s in-house legal counsel, she managed its legal department including handling all intellectual property matters related to the company’s own proprietary apparel brands, as well as providing strategic advice on clients’ licensing programs and trademark enforcement processes. Among her areas of expertise include conducting trademark clearance searches, preparing and filing trademark applications, prosecuting applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, performing copyright clearance searches related to marketing materials, and advising on brand style guides and website compliance. In addition, having worked in-house Ms. Albertson also has extensive experience drafting and negotiating corporate agreements, including client representation, merchandise licensing, non-disclosure, consulting, and work-for-hire.
Previously, Ms. Albertson worked as a staff attorney in the Los Angeles, California office of an international law firm where her practice focused on intellectual property, privacy and regulatory matters related to digital media, marketing and promotions. Prior to that, she worked as an associate at an IP boutique firm, as well as at international law firms in Los Angeles, California, and Chicago, Illinois, where she represented clients in all facets of domestic and international trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement and litigation matters.
Ms. Albertson was awarded the prestigious Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship in 2006, which provided her the rare opportunity to live and work in Germany. During her fellowship year abroad, Ms. Albertson worked at a leading German intellectual property law firm in Munich and at the Copyright Division of the German Federal Ministry of Justice in Berlin.
While preparing for the bar exam after law school, Ms. Albertson was a Public Interest Law Initiative Fellow at the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. During law school, she was Associate Editor of the Journal of International Human Rights. In 2001, she served as a summer law clerk at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center in Los Angeles, California.
Ms. Albertson is conversational in Mandarin Chinese and has a basic working knowledge of German.
